on the first day of school in baltimore is finally home. daniel was shot last month at the high school. he left the hospital yesterday after spending two weeks in the hospital. he has down syndrome and suffered a bruised lung, a wound in his torso. the gunman is being charged as an adult with attempted murder and assault. >>> today, players fans, family and friends will say final good-byes to art modell. last night, they played tribute with helmet decals. a video before the game. he's best known for bringing football back to baltimore and helping to establish monday night football. he died on thursday at the age of 87. >>> government task force says women with an average risk of ovarian cancer don't need annual screenings for the disease. the u.s. preventive services says the screenings don't reduce the numbers of deaths ovarian cancer causes. the panel says the test could do more harm than good. results are false positive and can lead women who don't have cancer to have major surgery. >>> the next time your kid has a sore throat, don't give them anything. they are suggesting most sore throats

're around baltimore, we've got more rain that sits back in west virginia. the other side of i-81. that's what's going to slowly be making its way eastward throughout the morning. i think by the time we get to mid morning, 8:00, 9:00 a.m., we will see those showers here locally and again just that showers for the area. nothing too heavy for the early part of the day. 79 degrees right now. high humidity. that's what's going to be sticking around all day today. even after i think the rain ends. we still have quite a bit of humidity. showers develop around 7:00, 8:00 a.m. 720 to 77 degrees. by noontime today, area of rain. some heavy already. 81 to 85. we're going to top out in the upper 80s today. cloudy sky. rain continuing. not really ending. >>> good news taking the beltway. checking out road work set up first at prince george's county. you have the right side blocked. completely gone at this time. also taking the beltway this time the outer loop approaching new hampshire avenue. the work zone there as you got closer to university boulevard, all of your lanes narrowed into just one rig

at perry hall high school in baltimore county last month. >>> firefighters in southern california are making progress battling a fire at angeles national park northeast of los angeles. the fire is now 24% contained. firefighters say because of the terrain and warm temperatures it could take another week before it's fully contained. the fire has burned 3600 acre in the san gabrielle mountains. no communities are threatened. the fire broke out on sunday near a camp ground forcing thousands to evacuate during the busy labor day weekend. >>> plans are in the works to change a small shopping center into an urban town center in chevy chase. developers have big plans for the chevy chase complex on connecticut avenue between jones bridge road and east west highway. they want to redevelop the land by adding apartment buildings, retail space and open space. the major redevelopment proposal is getting mixed reviews. >> we're really providing new community gathering spaces, a new park, new amenities, better dining and shopping options for them. >> any redevelop t it here that's happening is g

in frederick. 83 in baltimore. 82 towards la plata. a very warm atmosphere. take a look at the heat intex. even at this hour even though we're not dealing with a whole lot of sunshine, 90 in dc. 96 toward frederick, soupy atmo. a tu stofew storms trying to ma their way toward the metro area down to the south and west. those should die out over the next couple of hours. what may not die out, though, are these showers down here toward the south. some very heavy rain down around roanoke right now. this is a boundary that looks like it's going to stay together and move right up the eastern portions of the blue ridge. we could see some fairly heavy rain overnight tonight. if you're thinking about going to the nationals game tonight, i think you're fine. will there be a brief shower? it's possible. but i think they're going to get the game in without any real problems. tomorrow we'll be watching out for the this back here. notice this line of showers and thunderstorms. this is actually a frontal boundary. this frontal boundary will help to sweep on through the area. that's what's going to help to giv
